My Review of Verity by Colleen Hoover

I couldn’t put Verity down! it was absolutely thrilling and captivating from start to finish. Colleen Hoover’s writing pulled me in immediately, and I found myself devouring each chapter, desperate to unravel the dark secrets lurking within the story.

The sexual tension and steamy content added an unexpected layer, making it feel raunchier than I initially anticipated. However, this intensity served a purpose, heightening the sense of infatuation and passion that builds the plot twist so perfectly. Every encounter felt charged with a deeper undercurrent of mystery and danger, keeping me hooked.

That being said, the book isn’t for the faint-hearted. The graphic details were deeply disturbing, and I found myself squirming in my seat more than once. Trigger warning moments.. such as references to home abortions and shocking acts of violence… were gut-wrenching and left me gasping aloud. The manuscript Lowen discovers in Verity’s home was particularly haunting, blurring the line between truth and lies in a way that’s deeply unsettling. I know, this was the intention.

The suspense is masterfully crafted, and I loved how Hoover kept me guessing. Just when I thought I had it all figured out, the story twisted in ways I didn’t see coming. It’s the kind of book that has you constantly questioning the motives and truths of the characters, especially Verity herself.

If I’m being honest, the ending left me feeling a bit empty. It wasn’t disappointing per se, but it felt somewhat unfathomable. The idea that they could walk away unnoticed and start a happy life together didn’t sit quite right with me. Lowen’s ease in coming to terms with her discovery (given its horrifying implications) was difficult to accept. That final stretch of the book broke the immersion for me slightly, and it’s the main reason why I’d dock it a star.

That said, Colleen Hoover’s style of writing is phenomenal. personable, relatable, and so vivid that it pulls you directly into the story. It’s almost as if you’re there, experiencing every tense moment firsthand. Overall, Verity is a fantastic, unforgettable read, full of twists, turns, and emotions that will stay with you long after you’ve turned the final page.
