Common Sense (and Agrarian Justice)
Description:
The book that created the modern United States (well, the constitution anyway, shame they don't stick to it), Paine's incendiary call for Americans to revolt against British rule converted millions to the cause of independence and set out a vision of a just society - free from corruption and cronyism - which remains inspiring today. But the part that's had a huge impact on my thinking is the Agrarian Justice essay which brought home the importance of the land, and suggests ways to share in its wealth fairly.
